What is a Microchip?
The microchip is a small chip about the size of a grain of rice that has a barcode embedded in it. The microchip is inserted into the animal between the shoulder blades. North Carolina State Law requires that all animal shelters scan for a possible microchip upon entry into their facility. If a microchip is detected in the animal, it will display a company name and microchip number for the animal. We then get in contact with the company to get the registration information for the owner of the animal. A Microchip does not contain GPS tracking software to locate your animal if it is lost.
