Vital Records
Requirements for obtaining a certified copy of a vital record filed in Lincoln County, NC.
In order to obtain a certified birth, death or marriage certificate, one of the following (A, B, or C) must apply:
- Applicant can request their own vital record or an immediate relative can request the birth/death/marriage certificate. North Carolina General Statutes define immediate relative for purposes of obtaining a certified copy of a vital record to be a spouse, sister, brother, child, parent/stepparent, grandparent or grandchild. A current photo ID is required if requesting in person.
- Applicant is seeking information for legal determination of personal or property rights (Proof must be provided). A current photo ID is required if requesting in person.
- Applicant is authorized agent, attorney, or legal representative of a person listed in A or B above (Proof must be provided). A current photo ID is required if requesting in person.

The fee is $10.00 per certified copy requested, which is payable in cash only for request made in the office or certified funds for request made via mail. Mail request should include the completed request form, a copy of current photo identification such as a driver’s licenses and certified funds ($10.00 for each certified copy requested) made payable to Lincoln County Register of Deeds.
