Please be our guest at the opening of the exhibition Mr. Lem: The Life and Art of Lemuel Moore Nolen on Friday night, June 15, 2012 at the Lincoln Cultural Center in historic downtown Lincolnton. The exhibition, opening, and accompanying exhibition catalog are part of a collaborative effort between the Crouse Community History and Photo Project and Lincoln County Historical Association, and includes over sixty paintings from Lincoln County's most-remembered and time-honored folk artist. Lem Nolen is known to some as North Carolina's first licensed male beautician and to many as a celebrated folk artist. But to the people of Crouse, the man known as "Mr. Lem" was so much more. He began his working life in a factory and ended it sitting under an oak tree with a paint brush in his hand. The story of his life is everything that happened in between.
