Recreation Facilities

Lincoln County residents work hard, so naturally they want to make the most of their leisure time. An abundance of natural resources combine with those crafted by human hands, permitting folks to spend their free time in a variety of ways.  Scenic Lake Norman provides the backdrop for some of the area's most popular recreational diversions. The region's largest body of water, Lake Norman boasts 520 miles of shoreline and comprises Lincoln County's eastern border in conjunction with the Catawba River. Watersports enthusiasts flock to Lake Norman, which is a favorite for boating, sailing, fishing, swimming, water skiing and jet skiing. The picturesque lakefront community on the shores of Lake Norman is also one of the region's fastest growing areas.
Perhaps spending an afternoon improving your golf swing is your idea of a good time.  Numerous public and private courses challenge golfers of all skill levels. Three country clubs offer an impressive array of amenities in addition to golf privileges.  Organized sports for all ages are orchestrated by a unified city/county recreation department.  Among the team sports are Little League baseball, midget football, tee ball and soccer. Adults often enjoy the exercise and fellowship provided by industrial and church league softball, and the Senior Center at Gaston College caters to the interests of older adults.
Betsy Ross Park offers impeccable recreation facilities for all to enjoy. Among the features of this park are public swimming pools, tennis courts, softball fields, a gymnasium, racquetball courts, playgrounds and picnic areas. Take a walk on the "wild side" while exploring the Ramsour's Mill Hiking Trail. This challenging trail also provides ample opportunity for bird watching and nature photography.
