Education

Motivating the leaders of the next millennium is a crowning achievement of Lincoln County Schools. Shared belief in the importance of education spurs residents and the business community to work together to create a stimulating learning environment for students of all ages. A respected county school system and Gaston Community College form the backbone of the local educational network.
Lincoln County Schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The system boasts nine elementary schools, three middle and three high schools. Parents of elementary age children appreciate the availability of before and after school daycare. Students in grades K-12 benefit from the accelerated learning opportunities provided by AIG (academically and intellectually gifted) classes. All schools are equipped for the physically challenged, and offer classes for those pupils who need a little extra attention to maximize their potential. Each grade level has access to computers, an educational necessity in today's "global classroom."
Academics are a high priority in the schools here, as is evidenced by excellent scores on standardized tests. High school students can get a head start on their college careers by enrolling in Advanced Placement (AP) classes. By successfully completing these courses and passing a rigorous exam, students may receive college credit in their field of study. Additional academic enrichment is offered at the Science and Technology Summer Camp. Students excel out of the classroom as well, capturing state championships in football and basketball, and garnering numerous awards in marching band competitions.
High school juniors and seniors wishing to enter the workforce following graduation have one of the state's best resources at their disposal - the Lincoln County School of Technology. Offering advanced vocational training, the School of Technology blends business and education to give students a practical advantage. A varied curricula is offered, including health/human technology, business/marketing technology, industrial technology and auto mechanics. Study in these disciplines provides the basis for further education at community colleges and universities, should students select that option. An active placement program, operated by the school, boasts two full-time counselors working to place students in their ideal work environment.
