Easily visible address numbers can literally save lives in an emergency
situation. Don't take that chance - use the examples below to correctly display your
address.
Single Family or Duplex
Residential Addresses
These photos show a few ways to correctly display
numbers on your house. Numbers on your house must be at least 3" high, contrasting or
reflective, and visible from the street.
If your house numbers cannot be seen from the street, then post them at
the end of your driveway. Make your own or purchase one readily available from a hardware
store. Don't let it become hidden in shrubbery.
Numbers directly on
your mailbox are too small to be seen by emergency response personnel, but you can add
3" or larger numbers to your post if it is on the same side of the street as your
house.
Multi-Family, Business and Other
Non-Residential Addresses
Numbers must be at
least 6" high for apartments, businesses, churches, or other non-residential
buildings. Make sure the number is visible from the street, either on the street side of
the building or a posted sign.
