Lincoln County operates a State Approved Subtitle D Landfill on
approximately 300+ acres with a life expectancy of 25+ years. A total of
61,890 tons of trash was weighed into the landfill in 2001-2002, an
average of 125 tons a day.Solid
Waste Dept. is continually looking for ways to better handle your trash
and your recyclables. We have just received approval to proceed with a new
C & D site. Our own employees, at no additional cost to Lincoln County
residents will construct the new C & D landfill. All ground water
testing and leachate water testing is sampled regularly and shows no
contamination in our groundwater at this time.
Lincoln County's population is
growing every day. Our Solid Waste and Recycling Program has expanded
services to keep up with this growth. We are continually improving our
handling and hauling strategies, therefore, increasing our efficiency and
productivity.
The Lincoln County Landfill is divided
into designated areas for materials that must be separated and/or
recycled.
Household Trash There is a 7 acre
phase lined for household trash and any mixed loads of trash that have
not been separated.
Construction Debris is buried in a
designated area of the Landfill. This material is inert and should not
cause ground water contamination. (Such as building materials)
White Goods (appliances) are stored
in a separate area until 100+ tons are accumulated. Then a private
company is contacted to remove the Freon and take the White Goods to a
scrap steel mill.
Tires are also placed in a separate
area. The tire must be off the rim. A private company is contracted to
collect these tires whenever needed. Tires are placed in a monofil for
future reuse as technology improves.
Yard Waste is another separate area
of the landfill, which accepts brush, limbs and pallets. This material is
ground and stockpiled, then we have a mulch giveaway.
