[ARCHIVED] Singer/Songwriter Barrie Howard with BLOWING IN THE WIND program

The Lincoln County Public Library will feature Singer/Songwriter Barrie Howard with BLOWING IN THE WIND program on Thursday, October 13, 2011.

The multi-talented Barrie Howard will appear at Shanklin Branch Library located at 7837 Fairfield Forest Road, Denver, NC 28037 on Thursday, October 13, 2011 from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. Howard’s show features music from the golden age of folk music, with songs by Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, and “traditional” tunes. His BLOWING IN THE WIND also includes narrative providing historical perspective to Americana music of the past 175 years.

Howard is noted for his classical guitar style, smooth vocals, and solid harmonica fills. He says “I also play enough banjo and 12 string so some people think I can do that too.” He often adds his own compositions to the shows. With songs about ax murderers, hippy, cowboy folksingers, and motorcycle-riding ladies, there’re always a few laughs.

The Lincoln county resident has hosted Independence Day and Christmas programs for Blowing Rock for eighteen consecutive years and has appeared at dozens of receptions, parties, festivals, and clubs.

Howard wrote, narrated, and produced a live, variety radio program, A LA CARTE on WSGE, Gaston College radio and his weekly satire columns appeared in the Gaston Gazette and Lincoln times News. He emceed Gaston Library’s TEEN JAM.

He is currently performing MARK TWAIN, Wit, Wisdom, and Wisecracks, with programs for theater, cultural events, libraries, and schools.

He has also written four plays, three with musical scores and directed or appeared in more than 30 others with leads in SOUND OF MUSIC, KING AND I, and COTTON PATCH GOSPEL. His other one-man-shows, ROOTS OF ROCK AND ROLL, A VISIT WITH BEN FRANKLIN and OH! O. HENRY were presented in libraries, theaters, schools, and community organizations in Gaston, Lincoln counties and the surrounding area. His credits include two movies and 46 television commercials.

The artist will have copies of his self-produced CD, VAGABOND, on hand.
