COVID-19 UPDATE – LINCOLN COUNTY, NC

Lincolnton, NC – A third dose of mRNA COVID-19 (Pfizer or Moderna) vaccine is now recommended

for moderately and severely immunocompromised people. This priority group consists of patients who

self-attest to being moderately to severely immunocompromised. For self-attestation, you should talk

to your healthcare provider about your medical condition and whether getting an additional dose is

appropriate for you. The CDC defines moderately to severely immunocompromised as those who

have:

• Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood

• Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system

• Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to

suppress the immune system

• Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-

Aldrich syndrome)

• Advanced or untreated HIV infection

• Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your

immune response

If you received the Pfizer or Moderna series, it is encouraged to receive a third dose from the same

manufacturer, however you can receive either Pfizer or Moderna for the third dose. The booster dose

for moderately and severely immunocompromised people shall be administered at least 28 days after

completion of the initial 2-dose vaccine series.
