The ordinance is adopted for the purpose of regulating certain land disturbing activity to control accelerated erosion and sedimentation in order to prevent the pollution of waterways, and other public and private property by sedimentation by establishing procedures through which these purposes can be fulfilled.

Catawba River Buffer Rules Web Site
The Catawba River Buffer rules were established in 2001 to protect the waters of the Catawba River from Lake James to Lake Wylie, including Lake Norman.  The rules establish a 50 foot buffer to protect water quality and aquatic habitats.
