*The Pfizer or Moderna mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are preferred over Johnson & Johnson's Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. The Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccine may be considered in some situations for an individual who:
- Has had a sever reaction after an mRNA vaccination dose
- Has a severe allergy to an ingredient of Pfizer or Moderna
- Would otherwise remain unvaccinated for COVID-19 due to limited access to Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines
- Wants to get the Johnson & Johnson's Janssen COVID-19 vaccine despite the safety concerns.
A third full dose of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for ages 12 years and older or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for ages 18 years or older, is recommended for moderately and severely immunocompromised people. This priority group consists of patients who self-attest to being moderately to severely immunocompromised. The CDC defines this as those who have:
• Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
• Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
• Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
• Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome)
• Advanced or untreated HIV infection
• Active treatment with medication that may suppress your immune response
The third dose for moderately and severely immunocompromised people shall be administered at least 28 days after completion of the initial 2-dose vaccine series.
While vaccines provide the best protection from COVID-19, treatment options such as Monoclonal Antibodies are available if you test positive. If taken early, they can reduce the risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death. Ask your doctor about Monoclonal Antibodies or call the Combat COVID Monoclonal Antibodies Call Center at 1-877-332-6585.
